The "Hereford Cider Festival" mug given out on the occasion of the first festival held on the King George's Playing Field's in 1972.There were unfortunately only two Cider Festivals held and were organized by a gentlemen named Rex Neame who worked for "BULMERS" at the time.
This was the year of we saw Pan'People, The Sealed Knot and a huge Steam Fair.
The following year it was moved to Bulmers site just of Yazor Road and this was the year the "Apollo" moon capsule was displayed. Unfortunately these festival's were never held again, such a great loss to the city.

I remember The Spinners being at the first cider festival
I remember the Yazor Road festival with people in medieval costume and banners all the way down Commerical Road?
I remember these festivals and also have some mugs and a programme from the first one.
I too was at the Festival watching the Spinners, the drizzle did not dampen their performance or the enthusiasm of the audience, sadly, that night I think, was the only one of the week when it rained.
Bring back the Cider Festival to Hereford, that's what we say. The are enough small producers to form a festival, and a great event for locals and visitors alike.
With the people of the UK spending more time having their holidays in the UK it would be a great idea for the Hereford Cider Festival to attract more visitors to the County.
As a teen in the 70ss the cider festival was just amazeing. My friends and I had so much fun. I can remember how fantastic the atmosphere was............We laughed till we cried....Good harmless fun. It should have carried on for many years to follow..Very happy memories I will treasure forever.
